You may see bright blue “smoke free zone” signs in 公园 and bus stops around town as a result of a February 15, 2017 City Council action amending Chapter 8.16 of the Municipal Code designating various city facilities as smoke-free environments. 

Why did the West Sacramento City Council pass this ordinance?

By regulating smoking in certain public places, the ordinance protects public health and welfare. It strikes a balance between the needs of smokers and nonsmokers and recognizes that where these interests conflict, the need to breath smoke-free air has priority.

What counts as a city facility?

City facilities include City Hall, city offices, 公园, recreation areas, playgrounds, skate 公园, picnic areas, sports areas, walking paths, 花园, hiking trails, 自行车道, swimming pools, community centers, senior centers, meeting or conference facilities, child care facilities, public parking lots and their adjacent sidewalks. Additionally, smoking is prohibited within 20 feet of public transportation shelters, such as bus stops.

What counts as smoking?

Smoking includes the use or possession of any product which emits smoke in the form of gases, 粒子, vapors or other byproducts released by electronic cigarettes, tobacco cigarettes, herbal cigarettes, marijuana cigarettes and any other type of cigarette, pipe or other implement for the purpose of inhalation of smoke as a result of combustion or ignition.
